Accessibility Statement

Our commitment

GIS Tools is meant to be a dependable, professional tool for everyone who works with spatial data, including people who use a keyboard only, a screen reader, screen magnification, or high-contrast and reduced-motion settings. We treat accessibility as part of whether the tool is any good, not as a box to tick.

Conformance status

We aim for WCAG 2.1 Level AA, which is also the technical bar referenced by the Israeli standard IS 5568 (ת"י 5568). The site is currently partially conformant: most of the standard is met, but some parts of the site have not been fully verified, and the known gaps below have not all been closed.

"Partially conformant" is an honest description rather than a cautious one. We have not commissioned an independent accessibility audit, so we do not claim full conformance.

What has been done

• Every control can be reached and operated with a keyboard, including the mobile navigation menu and the collapsible converter sections, which are real buttons that report their expanded or collapsed state to assistive technology.
• A Skip to main content link is the first thing the keyboard reaches on every page, so the navigation can be bypassed.
• A visible, high-contrast focus indicator is shown on every control that receives keyboard focus.
• The converter inputs have programmatic labels, so a screen reader announces what each field is for rather than reading only an example value.
• The batch processing dialogs behave as dialogs: focus moves into them when they open, stays inside while they are open, returns to the button that opened them when they close, and Esc closes them.
• Pages reflow to a single column down to a 320 pixel width without requiring horizontal scrolling.
• Light and dark themes both use colour combinations chosen to meet the AA contrast ratios, and the theme choice is remembered.
• The interface honours the operating system’s reduced-motion and high-contrast preferences.

Known limitations, and what to do instead

These are the parts we know are not fully accessible yet, with the alternative route to the same result:

• Drawing shapes on the map is done by pointer and has no keyboard equivalent. Drawing a polygon by clicking vertices cannot currently be done from the keyboard.
  Alternative: every geometry you could draw can instead be typed or pasted into the WKT, WKB or GeoJSON field, or entered as coordinates in the Lat/Lon converter, and then converted. That route is fully keyboard accessible and produces exactly the same layer.
• The map itself is a visual surface. Map tiles are images from OpenStreetMap and carry no text description, so the map conveys nothing to a screen reader beyond the layer names.
  Alternative: conversion results are available as text in the format fields and through Export, so no information is only available on the map.
• JavaScript is required. The conversions run entirely in your browser, so the tool does not work with scripting disabled.
  Alternative: the written guidance on the Guide and Tutorials pages is readable without scripting.
• Third-party content. Advertising and the map tile layer come from external providers whose accessibility we do not control.

How this was assessed

The site is checked with a combination of automated scanning and manual testing: keyboard operation, focus order and focus visibility, programmatic names and states, reflow down to 320 pixels, and colour contrast in both themes. It has not been audited by an independent third party.
